BECAUSE NO ONE SHOULD FACE MENTAL ILLNESS ALONE

E3: ENCOURAGE • EMPOWER • EDUCATE

Does Someone You Love Have a Mental Illness?

According to the National Institute on Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults lives with a mental illness (44.7 million in 2016). Mental illnesses include many different conditions that vary in degree of severity, ranging from mild to moderate to severe. In 2016, there were an estimated 10.4 million adults aged 18 or older in the United States with serious mental illness, meaning that the illness resulted in serious functional impairment, which substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities.

E-3 is an 8-session course taught by trained volunteers that have personal experience caring for someone with mental illness and is conducted in an atmosphere of confidentiality. Each session will focus on a different mental health diagnosis and will include information about treatment options, techniques for handling real-life situations, and strategies to help caregivers manage their responses to the illness. These classes offer support to anyone caring for a friend or family member with mental illness.
