Pathway To Hope Looks to Future with New Executive Director, Dr. Jesse Barnes

Pathway To Hope, a Johnson County nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals living with mental illness, proudly announces the recent appointment of Dr. Jesse Barnes as its new Executive Director.

Dr. Barnes brings a deep and diverse background in nonprofit leadership, education, community development, and fundraising to Pathway To Hope. With more than two decades of experience driving organizational impact, building community partnerships, and leading strategic change, he is poised to guide the organization into an exciting new era of growth, innovation, and sustainability.

“Dr. Barnes is a mission-driven, dynamic leader with the experience and passion to lead Pathway To Hope into the future,” said Amanda Braun, Chair of the Board of Directors. “He has a strong track record of bringing people together to create lasting change. His experience leading community-based organizations and cultivating strong donor relationships makes him uniquely suited for lead Pathway To Hope into its next chapter. We are confident in his ability to chart a bold path forward for our programs, our Reclamation Clubhouse members, and our community.”

A Visionary Leader for Our Next Chapter

Prior to joining Pathway To Hope, Dr. Barnes served as Executive Director of Grace United Community Ministries, where he led transformative education and outreach programs in one of Kansas City’s most historic communities. His leadership advanced equity in areas such as mental health, nutrition, and education while forging partnerships with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, United Way of Greater Kansas City, AARP, and others. A passionate advocate for underserved communities, Dr. Barnes also brings experience from his work with cultural institutions, including the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center and The Kansas African American Museum.

Guiding Growth and Innovation

Dr. Barnes’ appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the organization as it refines its strategic vision and works to meet increased demand for services, including its accredited Clubhouse International program. Under his leadership, Pathway To Hope will continue to scale its impact through expanded programming, diversified funding, and deeper community engagement.

Dr. Barnes holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Baker University, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, and a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from Morehouse College. He has been recognized as one of Ingram’s “40 Under Forty” and received formal commendation from the City of Kansas City for his civic contributions.
